There have been lots of threads about the uselessness of cervical checks. You can go from 0-10 very quickly or you can walk around at 1 cm (or 3 cm) dilated for weeks. How dilated you are at 37 weeks is an indicator only of, well, how dilated you are at 37 weeks.

FWIW I was 3-4 cm dilated and 70% effaced for at least a month before I gave birth and I still ended up being induced at 40+5. 🤷🏻‍♀️ you can go from absolutely nothing to giving birth in a day so it doesn't necessarily mean anything. No personal experience but I have friends who had babies at 37 weeks and did not need a NICU stay.
