That's my experience with short term SPX spreads. They either move rapidly in your favor all day, or they do for a while and then reverse course. A simple method I use is to make trades based on the credit received. A $10 wide put spread should collect around $150 for a month. If you averaged that every week for the next year, you'd be at $1200*52 + $35000 = $97400 one year from your post. And two years from now, you'd have more than a $260k account.
