Sennheiser's e609 is in the same price range as an SM57 and yet, in my opinion, there is a huge gap in sound. A SM57 sounds clearer, fuller, and much more detailed. 2) e609 and e906 both sounded great, close to cone or approaching edge. 3) I'm going with the e906 for now, mid way cone to edge. The e906 is also hyper cardiod while the 609 is cardioid. So you'll get less stage bleed from the 906, but also less proximity effect, which might not be to your liking. I'd compare the e609 to an SM57 sound in a better format, and the 906 a step up from there. I'll be getting an e906 for sure.
