The other day it stopped blowing cold air (still cool just not cold) then hissing sound from the dash started happening shortly later. I turned off the A/C and scheduled an appointment at the dealership. Your mechanic's estimate of $1200 is probably the high side of any repair, but not out of line. GM did make this is very easy to do. Just find the fuse for it underneath the instrument panel on the passenger's side, remove it, wait about a minute or so, then put the fuse back in. Then, turn on your car and the AC will be running. Let the AC run and don't touch anything for 5 min or so. The system will recalibrate the blend door motors.
