Location. Greene, NY. Tractor. TL80a, Ford 4000, Super H, F 12, F14. Bought a NH 648 Silage Special. The hub on one end of the sledge follower roll is broken allowing the bolt to wear into the frame. The frame can be repaired. It also wore into the scraper and the scraper mount channel. This is also repaired.
Fixed all my New Holland no-want-to-start-bale problems. Had a 648 that wouldn't start a bale in dry conditions to save its life. Only thing that really helped was jump out an make a narrow windrow for 20' or so. The Vermeer Rebel 5400 only needs 40 HP. There are some differences between a late model 780A and an early 7090. The backwrap roll, the one behind the rubber roll, was changed so instead of the outboard greasable bearings on the 780A you now have inboard, in the roll, bearings, exactly the same as the 600 series used. REplaced belts last year with John Deere style aggressive belts and JD lacings. Replaced gears and bearings in sledge roller this spring.
