And a way to avoid activating all the "features" of towing mode automatically when you plug anything (like a lighted hitch rack) into the trailer socket.

I found the ultimate solution for me. It's made by Ride88 and they just made a Rivian specific kit. This thing is awesome. I didn't want a tailgate pad because I didn't want to risk scratching or denting my tailgate and didn't want to mess around with straps.
