The Coleman Collectors Forum was originally the Old Town Coleman Bulletin Board Service in the early part of this century. In December of 2008, it became the forum as you see it today. It is chock full of detailed information with 385 pages of Coleman products printed in high resolution with quality paper. This is a large book weighing in at almost 5 pounds. the only ones worth a lot of money are the old brass ones. I checked out of curiosity and they range in price from 20 to 80+ depending on age, style, and rarity. The old red ones with a box that looked new were outrageous!!!!! The green ones like gobble said 20 to 80 with most around 20 to 30.Roger - the ICCC site shows date range of model 243A as 1937 - 1942 . Many senior members have commented that you can add/subtract a year on both ends of the date ranges shown on the ICCC site . I would say yes , your 243A is October 1943. It should have a 242 style ball nut to hold the vent and a modern positive shutoff pump / check valve setup.

I have a 242c lantern that was in my step fathers camping equipment. I brought it out of storage and set about getting it up and running. I cleaned up the burner housing, replaced the fuel seal, soaked and cleaned the generator, replaced the mantle. Pump the fuel pump 15-25 strokes, open the valve 1/4 turn and hear the hiss, and sputter.

The hanger rod is common to most Coleman lamps. Makes them much more versatile. Shades depend on the model. CQ and other large lamps like the 118 all look right with a 306 "Rayo" shade. They can be found for reasonable prices. Small lamps use a shade protector.
